Gurkha Khukri Knife

Few blades have earned as legendary a reputation as the khukri, and anyone who has handled one will likely admit that it is a well-deserved one. This Gurkha Khukri Knife is based on the knife-design that the Gurkha troops carry, even to this day. Over the years, the khukri has not had much need to change. It still possesses the forward-set blade that excels at cutting, with a similar shape to what was found in old khukris from history. This model possesses a carbon steel blade, set with a small fuller along the base of the blades spine. A small notch adorns the blade at the hilt, which is crafted from hardwood and set with steel rivets and a rounded, smooth dome at the pommel. Included with the knife is a black scabbard, made from wood and wrapped in black leather. The very design of the Gurkha Khukri Knife gives it a graceful yet lethal look and appeal, and for the knife-collector who wants something that reflects the authentic look of the Nepalese khukri of yesterday and today, this particular blade is almost unbeatable.

Historical Info:
The khukri originated in Nepal, and was largely unknown as a knife until around the Gurkha War of 1814-1816, when the East India Trading Company came into conflict with the growing Gurkha Empire. It has long seen the tides of battle and conflict, being used in many wars after having been adopted by several different troops (including British and even American soldiers). Of more amusing note, the khukri is also found in Bram Stokers novel, Dracula. Usually, the image of Draculas death is envisioned as a stake through the heart, but by the books reckoning, Dracula has a bowie knife pierced through his heart and his throat slashed open by a khukri.
